Back Country Introduction

Our Intro to Backcountry offers skiers or split boarders a thorough introduction to backcountry touring in The NSW Main Range. Designed to equip you with essential knowledge and skills, we will cover topics such as proper equipment use, foundational techniques and key considerations for traveling beyond resort boundaries but most importantly this is hands on experience with lots of touring and riding.

Whether you are looking to expand your touring knowledge or want to connect with like-minded people, this adventure strives to offer a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment to help you build confidence in the backcountry.

Backcountry Advanced

Our Advanced Backcountry Days are designed for experienced skiers and snowboarders who already have some backcountry experience and are ready to take their skills to the next level. These days focus on exploring bigger, steeper terrain throughout the NSW Main Range while building confidence, decision-making, and mountain travel skills in a challenging alpine environment.

SKI MOUNTAINEERING

The spectacular Kosciuszko National Park in winter provides the perfect training ground for aspiring alpinists. Whether you dream of riding big mountain lines or simply want to develop the skills and confidence to safely access steeper terrain in Australia and New Zealand, this adventure will set you on the right track.

Throughout the course, you'll learn the essential skills needed to travel safely in technical backcountry terrain, including:

  • Choosing the right mountaineering equipment and using it effectively

  • Trip planning and preparation

  • Knots and hitches for mountaineering

  • Crampon and ice axe techniques

  • Ice axe self-arrest

  • Abseiling, belaying, and rope systems

  • Building snow, ice, and rock anchors

  • Basic route-finding and mountain navigation

This hands-on course combines practical instruction with real-world experience in a challenging alpine environment, helping you build the skills, knowledge, and confidence required for future mountain adventures.
